Guidelines
How it Works: Contact players. Play matches. Report the scores. Follow the rankings.
Who Can Play? Anyone at any level. The ladder is co-ed. This will change if demand arises.
How a Tennis Ladder Works: Lower ranked winners take the loser's ladder spot, and the losers are bumped down one rung. When winners are ranked above the loser no change is made to either party. For example: John is ranked #3. Mike is ranked # 6. If Mike beats John he takes the #3 spot, and John moves down to the #4 spot. If John beats Mike, no change is made to either player's ranking.
We will initially start with a 3.0/3.5 Ladder. If there is interest, we will also start a 4.0/4.5 Ladder.
Getting Started:
- Step 1: Check the current ladder standings. Contact one of the players on the ladder for a challenge match.
- Step 2: Schedule your match, arrive on time to play your match. Bring an unopened can of tennis balls.
- Step 3: Report your match results by Facebook message to the EG Tennis Group administrator.
Match Play: Play is any format agreed upon by both parties, typically best of three sets. Advantage or no-advantage scoring should be agreed upon prior to start of the match. USTA rules of play apply.
Challenging Players: If you are new, or are not yet on the ladder, you may not challenge anyone on the top 3 positions. Once you are on the ladder, you may not challenge anyone more than 2 positions above you. Challenge players above or below you. Please try to play at least one match every two months. If you don't, you may be temporarily removed from the ladder until you post another match. There is no upper limit to the number of matches you can play.
Reporting Scores: Please submit scores no more than 2 days after the match date. It may take a few days for the match results to be posted online.
Tennis Balls: Both players bring an unopened can of balls. Winner keeps the new can.
Location and time of Play: If both parties agree, play can be where ever you like. Although not expressly forbidden, please try to avoid EG Tennis Prime event of Saturday morning at EGHS. Our goal is to keep the open/casual atmosphere and player and court availability.
Defaults: There are two ways to default a match: 1. Show up later than 15 minutes without notification; 2. Don't show up at all. Defaulted matches are scored as 6-0, 6-0.
Timing Off the Ladder: If more than two months pass between recorded matches you may be subject to temporarily removal from the ladder. Simply play another match to get back on the ladder.
